In St. Petersburg
in 1883 the Russian Czar, Alexander, commissioned Faberge
to make a special Easter gift for his wife, the Empress Marie.
The egg was to be of outstanding beauty on the outside, and
contain a surprise on the inside. This special Faberge egg
so delighted the Czarina that the Czar promptly ordered the
Faberge firm to design further eggs to be delivered every
Easter to her.
It was easy for me to draw the parallel with
those eggs and create a kaleidoscope of flashing beauty on
the outside...with a surprise hidden inside (...the mandala!).
I created a beautiful package with The
Jewel of St. Petersburg,
involving a wood hinged box with brass snap lock, a luxurious
cloth that works both as insulation for shipping as well
as a display feature, plus a gold plated stand. You can use
the box both open or closed as a display.
The kaleidoscope is 4" diameter,
porcelain covered in Swarovski crystal, with gold plated
brass findings, and it generates a rich jewel tones 8 points
mandala. The first run of this open edition kaleidoscope
was of 144 and it is sold out very rapidly. I am now starting
a new production. |
